South Texas mobile blood unit comes to Bandera High School

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) mobile unit will be parked at Bandera High School, 474 Old San Antonio Highway, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, Monday, Nov. 21.

With students out of school and families traveling, the holidays are an especially difficult time to collect donations. While donating blood only takes a little bit of time, it makes a lifesaving difference to the community. To sweeten the pot a little, medical personnel at the STBTC are offering South Texas blood donors not only a chance to help save lives but also to win a 2012 Toyota Tundra Truck.

The winner of the pickup truck will be drawn in early January 2012.

Donors must be 18 years or older to be eligible to win the truck.

Anyone 16 years old weighing 120 pounds - with a parental consent form - or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds, and in good general health can donate blood.

It is recommended donors eat iron rich foods before donating and to drink plenty of fluids to keep the body hydrated.

Donors must also present identification.
