Heritage group reprinting Medina County history & sequel

The Castro Colonies Heritage Association (CCHA) has announced plans to reprint its Volume I "History of Medina County" as well as a Volume II sequel that updates new county developments occurring since the original edition was published.
The first volume, which has been reprinted three times since its introduction in 1983, is a 600-page treasure documenting the early history of the area and the birth and development of Medina County. It is replete with stories and accounts of the county's natural resources, industries, institutions, communities, civic and church organizations, schools, medical facilities and other places of interest in the county. In addition, it includes dozens of family histories with lineages, anecdotes and photographs.
The proposed Volume II will record and document similar information from 1983 to the present time. There still is time for organizations and families not included in the first book to be represented in the sequel. Material printed in Volume I cannot be repeated although corrections and-or additions to the original stories are possible and encouraged.
Laurel Oppelt D'Orsogna of LaCoste and John Glyn Wernette of Castroville are compiling Volume II with assistance by committee of fellow-CCHA members.
Because of ongoing demand for the first edition, priority will be given to the reprint of that volume - only 27 of which remain in CCHA inventory. The Volume I reprint is being handled by Wernette and his wife, Cherryl, co-chairman of the CCHA's Ways and Means Committee.
Timetable for the completion and publication of the second volume has been tentatively set for December 2012. A deadline for inclusions will be announced later.
There is no charge for submissions, which should be no more than 1,000 words. Two photos are permitted with each write-up. Any family with roots or ties to Medina County is eligible to have its history included.
Stories may be mailed to Castro Colonies Heritage Association, PO Box 636, Castroville 78009, or e-mailed to
