The Fredericksburg Rockhounds Club will host the 48th Annual Hill Country Gem and Mineral Show Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Jan 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pioneer Pavilion at the end of the main park road in Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, 3 miles south of Fredericksburg off St Hwy 16 S. Admission is free and food will be available on site from award-winning Buzzie’s Barbeque of Kerrville.
This year’s show will feature displays from members of the Rockhounds Club as well as continual demonstrations of stone cutting, polishing and gem faceting by club members. As many as forty vendors from several states are expected, offering minerals, fossils, meteorites, geodes, stone carvings and an extensive array of jewelry, available for sale. Geologists will also be available to identify discoveries made by the public and to help explain how these rocks were formed.
The event will also include an hourly silent auction, free door prizes and the sale of raffle tickets for numerous mineral specimens and jewelry.
The Fredericksburg Rockhounds is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1968 to study and enjoy gems, minerals and fossils. They hold monthly meeting on the first Monday of each month at the Golden Hub in Fredericksburg. For more information, visit www.fredericksburgrockhounds.org.
