Drawing - where art begins

Contributed

Those who have always wanted to learn how to draw are encouraged to enroll in a class hosted by the Hill Country Arts Foundation. The six-week series of classes will begin Feb. 16 and meet two days a week, from 9 am to noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Offering skills to anyone with a desire to learn the art of drawing, this course offers building blocks for great drawing by focusing on building fundamental drawing skills. Students will learn basic techniques such as shading, composition and drawing methods and how to see with an artist's eye and capture that on paper.
The course will address line quality, shading, perspective, and form, and include discussion, instruction, drawing and a homework assignment.
Workshop instructor Sonny Payne studied art at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts-Glassell School, and the University of Houston Art Department-Lawndale Annex. He has worked in graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylics, oils, and in three-dimensional sculpting in clay, wax, wood-carving, bronze casting, and welded steel.
"We will look at the critical elements and defining lines of your subject - not only what to put in your drawing, but the distillation process of what to leave out," Payne explained.
To enroll in the course, call the HCAF Visual Arts Center at 830-367-5120
