Despite inclemency, Show-Deo went on

By Leanne Beauxbeannes HCSNA Ranger

Volunteer and co-founder of the annual Cowgirl Round-Up & Show-Deo, Jeanne Beauxbeannes, riding "Charlie," lined 'em up for the official panoramic photo, which will feature 30 cowgirls on horseback and another 30 on their tender - and cold - feet.

Despite a threat of inclement - wet, cold and rainy - weather - a 100-plus crowd filed into the lodge at the Hill County State Natural Area on Friday, Jan. 1.
Everyone enjoyed a good luck meal of black-eyed peas and cornbread. The hardy souls included a set of grandparents from Poland with 3-month-old twins and a woman visiting from China.
Of the 30 cowgirls on horseback, half of them stayed for trail riding. The after-photo earned the appropriate moniker "The Round-Up, Bundle-Up and Cowgirl-Up Trail Ride."
With a little luck - and better weather - the complete Cowgirl Round-Up and Show-Deo will be back on Jan. 1, 2017.
