- Bandera Gun Club - Bud Bell Memorial Shoot

by Jim Harris

Weather played a big roll in our May shoot, the Bud Bell Memorial. Lots of gusting wind for the doubles on Friday, more wind and a couple of light showers on Saturday, and on Sunday field two had a bigger puddle of water than Medina Lake. I am told the lake received some run-off on Monday.
We had a total of 29 shooters who took part in the shooting and eating events. We shot doubles on Friday. On Saturday, we shot 12 gauge - 28 gauge and had brisket with Mary's famous cobbler followed in the evening by a wine and cheese party. On Sunday we shot the 20 gauge and .410 events to go with the beef stroganoff, more cobbler and another round of wine and cheese with Axis deer sausage. It was a tough shoot.
By now Bill Tanner, from Austin, must have a drawer full of Bandera trophy buckles, and he added one more this past week - the HAA Championship buckle. The wind and weather cost him some targets, but that was true for everyone. Bill ended up with a 473/500. Runner-up was Brian Tullett from San Antonio with a 469/500. Third place went to LaDon Richardson from Uvalde with a 464/500. The Lady Champion buckle went to Tina Tullett from an Antonio.
The other winners were:
12 Gauge: Champion - Bill Tanner 99/100. RU - Patricia Hupp from Uvalde 99/100. 3rd Place Brian Tullett 98/100.
20 Gauge: Champion - Bill Tanner 98/100. RU - Patricia Hupp 98/100. 3rd Place Brian Tullett.
28 Gauge: Champion - LaDon Richardson 96/100. RU - John Henry Jr. from Lakehills 96/100. 3rd Place - John Hewitt from Norwich, England 94/100.
.410 Bore: Champion - John Henry, Jr. 95/100. RU - LaDon Richardson 93/100. 3rd Place - JM Clements from Bandera 91/100.
Doubles: Champion - Brian Tullett 95/100. RU - Bill Tanner 95/100. 3rd Place David Hulsey from Bandera 89/100.
HOA: Champion - LaDon Richardson 381/400. RU - Bill Tanner 378/400. 3rd Place - Patricia Hupp 377/400.
Besides the regular Wednesday Fun Shoots we have a rifle competition scheduled for June 28 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Bandera range.
The next registered skeet shoot in Bandera is slated for July 3 - 6, the Jack Moss Memorial. We expect a good turnout for this one in spite of the fact that we usually have some hot days in July.
The State Skeet Championship is in Houston this year in June.
