Postal Express owners mark 5th anniversary

By Carolyn B. Edwards BCC Staff Writer

Pat and Don Chambless, owners of Postal Express in Bandera, celebrated their fifth anniversary on June 1. They marked the occasion by hanging a brand new bright red sign out front.
The Chamblesses had moved to Bandera several years ago to be closer to a parent and looked around for something to invest in and keep them busy. "I don't know how long you have to own a business in Bandera before you start to make money!" joked the effusive and friendly Pat.
In addition to Pat, customers will find themselves greeted and helped by Don, when he's not off working in Colorado; son Scott; Christina Rodriguez; and part-timer Jean Graham.
The couple bought the business and continue to expand their services.
"We offer a convenient private mail box service," said Rodriguez. "You can get your mail here, we do mail forwarding, hold mail and people can use our address for various reasons." Snowbirds, those RVers who stay in Bandera for several months of the year, find the services of Postal Express especially helpful.
The shop is also the drop-off and pick-up site for UPS, FedEx and USPS packages and as expected, "Christmas is really crazy around here!" Rodriguez said.
In fact, it was around holiday time when she first entered the store. "I came in the door and Don was here by himself with a line of people out the door," Rodriguez said. "All I needed was a copy so I asked him if I could just do it myself and he said the copier was broken. So I went over and fixed it and made my copy."
The next day she came back in to the same situation and Don was having problems with the computer, so she fixed that.
"He said, 'Do you need a job?' and I said as a matter of fact I was making copies to apply for a job," said Rodriguez.
In addition to the usual mail and package services, Postal Express offers fax services, can scan documents, receive and send emails for customers and provide notary services.
"We can make copies in black and white and color up to 11 by 17 and bind documents," said Pat. They can also help you design a business card and print them up for you.
The store stocks a few basic office supplies, like large envelopes, folders and tape, too. They'll also be happy to special order whatever you need and it will probably be delivered the following day.
If you need something to help you pass the time, Pat has an eclectic selection of well used books and movies available for cheap. You can make yourself comfortable in a comfortable chair and read a chapter before you buy, or just chat with whoever is on duty while you enjoy a free cup of coffee.
An assortment of gifts are available for those last minute shoppers who need to send a piece of jewelry, a decorative piece of wall art or a locally made walking stick to a loved one.
Among their most popular retail items are flags. Postal Express stocks UT, Texas A&M and Texas Tech flags, and the 3-foot by 5-foot Texas and American flags for $10.95.
Open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. Postal Express is conveniently located at 1132 Main Street. Call 830-796-3660 for help with your mailing needs.
