Legion, RLAT sponsors 'Meet the Candidates' forums

Welcome to 2014! It is that even numbered year again and time to mark calendars with all the key election dates. The filing period is closed and its time to hear from the candidates before the March 4 Primary Election.
The Bandera American Legion Post 157 and the Ranchers and Landowners Association of Texas will jointly sponsor two candidate forums on Feb. 8 and Feb. 15. Both events will be held at the American Legion facility, 205 12th Street, starting at 6:30 pm.
The event featuring Bandera County candidates will take place on Feb. 8. All filed candidates are invited to participate. The two contested local positions are Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace and Precinct 4 Commissioner.
The state level candidate event will be held on Feb. 15. Candidates for the following positions are the most likely to participate - US Representative, District 21; Comptroller, Public Accounts; and State Representative, District 53.
The public is invited to hear the candidates share their platforms, plans and solutions to relevant issues. There will be question and answer periods. Time limits for both candidates and questions will be strictly enforced to allow for maximum participation.
This jointly sponsored, nonpartisan event is presented to provide an opportunity for voter education and participation.
The American Legion is a nonprofit, veterans' organization 501(c) (19) with "Americanism," which includes voter participation, being a key portion of their mission. The nonprofit Ranchers & Landowners of Texas provides educational information and resources.
