Flying L breaks ground for Lapham's Lodge

An enthusiastic crowd braved the bracingly cold temps to celebrate the groundbreaking of Lapham's Lodge at the Flying L Guest Ranch Monday, Dec. 30. Wielding the shovels were ranch manager Jody Jenkins, project designer Ed Urbanek, 22-year employee Victoria de Leon, manager Susan Jenkins, Chamber of Commerce secretary Leslie Lester, and project builder Scott Asher. The Lodge, named after the ranch's founder, Col. Jack Lapham, will feature 10 bedrooms with private baths, a large great room capable of hosting business events, family reunions, church groups, and other gatherings, and a spacious patio with a fireplace. The full kitchen will allow groups to prepare meals and snacks for themselves if they wish. It echos design features created for Flying L's original bungalows by associates of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Lapham's Lodge should be finished and ready for use in June of 2014. Following a short program, guests at the groundbreaking gathered in the iconic Pilot's Lounge for warm food and beverages near the cozy fire.
