SoH 'Pops' concert always a favorite


Kerrville's Symphony of the Hills will take the audience on a spirited and wide-ranging tour of American music, at its Symphony Pops concert, beginning at 7:30 pm, Saturday, Jan. 11. A wine reception will be held in the lobby at 6:30 p.m.
The upcoming concert is entitled America's Favorite Music: From Big Bands to Rock 'n Roll. The Symphony's "Pops" concert is always a highight of the season. The 60-piece orchestra will perform recognizable favorites from the Big Band era to the days of Rock and Roll. The repertoire includes Salute to Big Bands; Irving Berlin Tribute; Lone Star Country & Western; Jazz, St. Louis Blues; Rock, Grease, Beach Boys and more; and Stars & Stripes Forever.
Virtuoso vilinist Nancy Zhou returns as solo performer, along with classical guitarist Kevin McCormick.

Symphony of the Hills concerts are funded through season ticket sales, corporate and individual donations, grants and other assistance, and program advertising. Orchestra musicians come from the Hill Country area and include professionals, Schreiner University faculty, and advanced music students.
Future concerts include Storm and Stress: Symphonic Adventures, Feb. 27; and From Russia With Love: Exotic Tales, May 1.
