BHS inducts 34 into National Honor Society


The Mary Welch Chapter of the National Honor Society held its yearly Induction Ceremony on Monday, April 29, at the Bandera High School Auditorium. Thirty-four Bandera High School students were inducted into the chapter. Students were selected based on Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

New members include Seniors Jordan Carvajal, Sierra Rodriguez and Chris R. Smith. Juniors inducted were: Josie Burnes, Ethan Greven, Shae Hopf, Macie Malone, Audrey Perna and Chris Toenes. Inducted from the Sophmore class were Nick Andreas, Kyle Bauml, Sara Butler, Elizabeth Collett, John Derry, Courtney Flach, Mary Hevenor, Corey Jennings, Wes Joseph, Brady Keane, Dana Lohrke, Averie Mansfield, Kate Martin, Shay McMullan, Alyssa Mordoff, Ty Neff, Noah Nelson, Katelyn Randolph, Javier Rodriguez, Meghan Salley, Leeanne Shackelford, Grace Smith, Cameron Thrasher, Kyle Wilson and Dava Zavorka.

BHS principal Gary Bitzkie commented "These are the hardest working group of students I've seen. I am very proud of each and every one of them."

At the end of the ceremony, Senior Honor Society members were presented with a special graduation tassel, while juniors received their letterman patch. All new members received a pin.

"We have a very promising new group of officers for 2013-2014!" said Chapter Advisor Ginger Postert. "I am pleased to announce that the Mary Welch Chapter received third place in the Texas Teens In The Drivers' Seat Cup. This initiative was led by 2012-2013 Outstanding Member, Senior Emily Frost."
