Christmas countdown! Shop Bandera

Carolyn B. Edwards BCC Staff Writer

The gift giving is just around the corner, and, unless you're one of those people who delight in doing all of their shopping on Christmas Eve, you've got most of your gifts purchased and wrapped. However, there may be one or two people on your list for whom you are still hoping to find that perfect gift.
We hope you did a lot of your holiday shopping right here in Bandera County, because the gift selection available right here is simply amazing! In addition, the dollars you spend stay in the community, providing jobs and services for all of us.
Avoid the crowds and manic traffic of the city and finish your shopping right here.
If you are not quite sure what your gift recipient would like, gift certificates make the perfect choice. And around this community, there are certainly lots of businesses that offer those welcome gifts. A big advantage of the certificate is that you can spend as little or as much as you desire and that your budget allows, beginning with a $5 stocking stuffer at one of the local fast food places.
Every woman on your list will squeal with delight with a gift certificate from one of our many salons. Haircuts, styles, perms, mani-pedis, facials and massages are always popular. The bonus for you is that you don't even have to specify what the certificate should be spent on. Leave that delicious choice up to the recipient!
If you have a teenager on your list that just got their first vehicle, how about gifting them with a year's worth of auto service, like oil and tire changes? What a great way of assuring the new driver will take good care of their transportation.
If someone in the family is driving around with tires looking a little bald, any tire shop around will be happy to provide a set of new ones. They'd probably be happy to tie a big red bow around them, too.
Many people say they don't want gifts because they have "so much stuff already." For those folks, just to let them know you care about them, a donation in their name to one of Bandera County's many worthy non-profit organizations would be very appropriate.
Gifts of food are always welcome, as they are soon eaten and out of the way! If you know someone on a fixed income, a gift certificate to the local grocery store would no doubt be more helpful than the Fruit of the Month Club.
Perhaps your recipient would like to get involved in a new endeavor, learn something new, or get in shape. Consider paying for their membership in the Friends of the Library or the Frontier Times Museum. Gym memberships or fees for exercise classes at the Silver Sage Corral would promote healthy goals for the new year. Gun owners can improve their skills with a membership to the gun club, increase their sense of security with a scholarship for a concealed carry class, or learn the rules of Texas hunting at a hunter education class.
If you are among those rightfully concerned about supporting businesses in the USA, it's equally important to look for "Made in Bandera" items. There are so many talented local artists and craftsmen working here it isn't difficult to find something to suit every taste. Our artists produce paintings, metal art, furniture, photographs, graphic art, music, restored vehicles, motorcycle art, ranch entrances, garden hardscapes and water features. We have leather craftsmen, jewelry makers, silversmiths and many more.
And of course, here at the Courier, we want to remind you that a subscription to the best little newspaper in Texas can be a weekly greeting from home for someone who has moved away.
Happy shopping!
