More than $1,700 was raised at the inaugural Bandera Volunteer Fire Departments Fill the Boot Campaign held on Sept. 1.
Bandera County Volunteer Fire Departments braved the Texas heat for four hours collecting on the street corners for local families fighting muscle disease.
"We want to thank the community and the firefighters for their generosity in supporting the Fill the Boot Campaign," said Lauralynn Arellano, MDA Fundraising Coordinator.
The money raised in donations will help speed MDA research seeking treatments and cures for local families with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases. Also, it will help MDA provide a free summer camp experience to area children with muscle disease, as well as medical and health care services at MDA's multi disciplinary clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
