Extending a sister-city welcome

In one of her first official acts, City of Bandera Mayor Pro Tem Maggie Schumacher recently joined Bandera County Historical Commission Chairman Roy Dugosh to extend a warm Texas "Howdy" to visitors from Silesia, Poland, led by San Antonio's Father Frank.

Silesia, made up of four different regions with an equal number of dialects, borders the countries of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The group was comprised of winners of a monologue competition sponsored by Polskie Radio Katowice.

According to Father Frank, although the trip took the visitors to New York City, most couldn't wait to get to Texas, saying, "Now we are going home." Jadwiga Woznikowska of Radio Katowice is pictured left, Schumacher, middle; and Dugosh and Father Frank, right.

The next Polish contingent will visit Bandera during Celebrate Bandera over Labor Day weekend.
