Time is fast approaching!

Amy Hawley

Time is fast approaching! Have you bought your tickets yet? Ladies, have you made you beauty appointment, gone shopping for your fancy apparel and spiffed up your dancing shoes? Gents, did you take your suit to the cleaners? Oh, and what about that spot on your tie - you know, the spill from last year's Sweetheart Party?

The Black and Red Ball is just a couple of weeks away. This Valentine extravaganza is "The Event" in Bandera County and it's time to start getting ready!

The Black and Red Ball is presented annually by the Silver Sage Corral Board of Directors. In addition to providing an evening of grandeur for our friends, this event also raises funds for the local Meals on Wheels program.

Last year, 26,740 meals were delivered to people in their own homes. Think about your parents, an aunt and grandparents. What would it mean for them to live independently with lunch delivered every day? The annual Black and Red Ball is a great time to spend with your friends and have fun, but it is so much more than that. If you have never attended one of our balls, let's fill you in on this special evening.

The festivities on Saturday, Feb. 11, begin at 6 pm at The Farm Country Club located at Pue Road off FM 2828.

The facility will be elegantly decorated and those attending will be wearing anything from show-stopping glitz and Bandera bling to old time western attire and neat and starched western wear.

Delicious hors d'oeuvres will be available with complimentary set-ups. This event is BYOB.

Music by the renowned Almost Patsy Cline Band will make it possible to "dance the night away."

A delectable dinner will consist of Grilled Beef Tenderloin with assorted sauces; Grilled Pancetta-Wrapped Chicken Beast with various sauces; Roasted German Potato Salad, Grilled Green Beanand Asparagus Medley; and Spring Salad with choice of dressings. Dessert will be Chipotle Fudge Brownies with raspberries and fresh whipped cream.

Fantastic items will be available during the fun silent and live Auctions throughout the evening. You might find the "perfect" gift for your Valentine Sweetheart!

This promises to be an evening to cherish and one to hold close to your heart - at least until next year's exciting Black and Red Ball!

Tickets for the ball are available at the Silver Sage Corral office until Tuesday, Feb. 7.

They are $30 per person, or $220 for a table for eight.

Don't wait too long as tickets are selling fast - and we don't want you to miss out on an unforgettable evening.

Other events on our calendar of "things to come" include:

• This month's Friday Nite Jam will be held on Jan. 27 with the fun beginning at 6:30 pm. Remember your potluck dish!

• January's Birthday Bash will be held in the dining room on Tuesday, Jan. 31, so call ahead at 830-796-4969 to make your reservation. Since this is also potluck, please bring a dish to go with Beef Stroganoff and Green Beans provided by our great kitchen staff!

Our birthday quote for those of you born this month is from dear old Maxine. She said, "Remember, life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes." Happy birthday!

• Our next Cowboy Capital Opry will be Tuesday, Feb. 7. Come at 6 pm for dinner. Showtime is 7 pm sharp and will feature Christy Mims and John Wayne Schultz. This promises to be a really great show for all ages so get your in-laws, outlaws and neighbors together and come join in the fun!

And, don't forget to get ready for the Corral's Black and Red Ball.
