The New Year is upon us

Amy Hawley

The New Year is upon us
We've fluttered to and fro.
We have a bright new beginning
Now it's "on with the show."

The Christmas season is always so much fun with all the hustling and bustling of shopping, decorating, visiting and preparing. But we must admit, it does feel good when it's successfully behind us!

Isn't Bandera a great place to live?

Our small community outdid itself with all the colored lights and decorations. And the shopkeepers, waitresses and employees were so friendly and happy, as were all the folks we met on the streets and sidewalks!

The courthouse certainly displayed the true meaning of Christmas, keeping our western heritage in mind.

We hope you drove through our beautifully lighted City Park. It was outstanding! Throughout the town, churches offered memorable services depicting the true meaning of Christmas. Our community is truly blessed.

Now, "it's on with the show!" And what a show Silver Sage Corral had Tuesday night with the first Cowboy Capital Opry of 2012! The nice crowd that included folks from all over the area, as well as from many states in the US! It's always fun to chat with our visitors along with all our local friends!

Gerry and Harriett Payne did another bang-up job of bringing in guest artists along with the Opry's faithful regulars whom we love and appreciate so much! Many thanks go out to Dorothy Cass, Walkin' John and Tom Morris who graced our stage this month. All of you did a great job of entertaining us!

Hope you took advantage of the new service being offered by the Corral along with the Opry! It was really fun to get together with friends, enjoying the yummy homemade soup and sandwiches then relaxing in the Great Room with the Opry "Gang!" The proceeds from the show and the meal all go to the Meals on Wheels Program. Kinda makes it just that much better!

This promises to be a fantastic year at the Silver Sage Corral! Our thrift store has undergone many changes and will be a real boon to our Meals Program. Our staff has worked hard to offer new programs, along with current classes and activities. The community garden has transformed the atrium into a beautiful oasis, and our board and staff have redecorated our facility for all to enjoy.

Stop by and pay us a visit. A brochure lists our schedule of daily activities. Watch this column to stay in the know or visit us online at Or, for questions, comments and information on volunteering, just call 830-796-4969. Whichever way you do it, you'll be greeted by a happy staffer!

In closing, we quote Oprah Winfrey: "Cheers to the new year and another chance for us to get it right."

Let's "get it right" together!
