2009-09-24Medina County Fair Parade
Doug White

There I was, getting ready for the trip to Hondo to get the Chicken Car fired up for its first parade in Hondo.
It was the Medina County Fair Parade with the theme “Home Town Hot Rods.” The car has been in front of the Church’s Chicken in Hondo.
After arriving, the first thing I noticed was the amount of dust accumulated on the Numero Uno Chick. I got directions to a car wash before taking it to the parade lineup area. The car wash worked perfectly and the Chicken Car looked 100 percent better. After that great wash job, I noticed I still had plenty of time to get to my spot in the parade, #46.
As I pulled up, a young lady with a clipboard advised me that I would proceed on the parade route after the fellow behind me passed me by. I was not accustomed to this procedure. However, it turned out to be a wonderful way to do the parade.
You see, all the parade participants could see the floats as they went by - really a very cool idea indeed.
The parade went very well and started right on time - a good thing. The large crowd cheered. It was a pretty long parade and I was very glad that I had put fuel in the chicken car prior to the start of the parade. You don’t want to run out of fuel in the middle of a parade!
The H-E-B float was in front of me and I told the driver, “Most of these folks will be following me to the Church’s Chicken and after we run out of food we’ll be coming to your place!”
Hope you enjoyed the story.
Additionally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Medina County Fair Association, Inc., for inviting us to this wonderful parade.
