Wow, talk about a great surprise, two special friends came by for a visit even though their schedule was tight. Mike and Charlsie came to Texas from Pennsylvania for a wedding, but somehow found time to stop by the “White House” in Pipe Creek. Mike and I were childhood friends and he and I shared some of those special times while he was here. He knew Beth way before we got married, since we all attended Bandera High School.
It was a short but wonderful visit. Mike played drums for Arkey Blue at the Silver Dollar back in the late 60's and early 70's, while I learned to play the guitar from my dear friend Edgar Paul Heinen in the early 60's. We lost Edgar to Vietnam in 66. Mike Tanner played drums for me while I played “Walk Don't Run 64” by the Ventures. Unfortunately Edgar never got to see and hear Mike and me play one of Edgar’s favorite pieces. Man, did it sound great! Mike was —and still is—a great drum player.
When Mike and Charlsie saw my vintage 1964 Allstate Vespa scooter, he had to take a ride with me. Charlsie took the photo and posted it on Facebook! It was a fun and special day that we will always remember.
