Can President Elect Trump make America Great Again?

Feather Wilson

Can President Elect Trump make America Great Again?

That depends upon which America he thinks he is talking about. It is becoming clear that America is populated by older less educated people whose jobs are disappearing down a rabbit hole.
The rabbit hole is being dug by robotics, cheaper foreign labor, rising insurance costs, rising living costs, rising population, rising debt and a host of other national and international problems.
President Trump proposes less insurance coverage for the middle, lower and older class Americans.
President Trump proposes building a southern border immigration wall to prevent foreign labor from competing for the disappearing jobs. He continues to state that Mexico will pay for the wall and Mexico says “No”.
Perhaps he means he will impose tariffs or taxes on all imported goods and food to discourage the loss of jobs to foreign countries.
How will that impact the older less educated American?
It will increase their cost of living even more and push them deeper into poverty and establish a lower quality of living.
So, what is the answer to making America Great Again?
Should we encourage the military industrial complex to make more bombs airplanes and ships, thereby providing more jobs for the less educated older Americans?
That will not work because the technologies that are required preclude a less educated and older worker.
What answers await?
First, the less educated older worker should not just be thrown under the bus. Retraining might be in order. For example, coal workers might be retrained as heavy equipment operators in the natural gas industry.
Second, high school education should be beefed up to meet tomorrow’s labor needs.
Third, more high school graduates should have access to free or very low cost college education.
Either Trump’s path or the three suggestions will be cheap. Either path will create mountains of debt and higher taxes for all.
One path leads to stagnation and the other solutions lead to a stronger economic future via patriotic sacrifice.
