Flying L Kicks Off 2015

Charles Prokop

Bad weather cancelled the Good Old Boys Tournament this week, but there is always golf at the Flying L course. For more information about golf events at the Flying L, give the pro shop a call.
The Flying L 2015 golf tournament season began with a double-header the weekend of Jan. 3-4. The Men's Golf Association held a one-man scramble on Saturday. In this event, players may choose to take a second try at any or all shots during the round. However, if they take a do-over they must play that second shot, no matter how good or bad it may be.
Local golf phenom Kyle Broll won the 1st flight of the tournament with a net score of 65. Louis DuBose was close behind with 67, followed by Bob Williams with 69. Larry Henson won the 2nd flight with a 65 and John Simmons took second with 70. Jim Martin and Roger Hill tied for the lead in the 3rd flight with 72s.
The next Men's Golf Association tournament will be on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 am. Interested players may sign up in the Flying L pro shop.
Ten brave couples faced down Sunday's chilly weather and competed in a scramble. Mike and Linda Kornmann tied Roger and JoAnn Hill for first place. Both couples posted a net score of one under par 71. Jim and Carole Martin took third place with 73.
The next couples' scramble will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 12:30.
