The Outlaws came & left joy behind

Judith Pannebaker

Once again, the Bandera Outlaws rode to the rescue. They collected several huge boxes of toys for the kiddos served by the Spirit of Christmas Presents. Not only that, but they also donated 10 new bicycles for the youngsters. Our partner organization was able to provide 186 children four wrapped gifts each for Christmas. Helping Hand fed 75 families for the holiday. Many thanks to all our generous donors.
For the year 2013, Helping Hand assisted 2,472 individuals in 731 families, of which 196 families were new to us. We provided food to 1,896 people and clothes to 445 individuals.
Helping Hand gave school supplies to 105 youngsters and provided an eye exam and glasses to one child. We sent seven children to summer camp. We also handed out 45 box fans to fight the summer heat.
We assisted 103 families with utilities. We made 200 referrals. We provided emergency prescriptions to 11 families.
With the Salvation Army, we helped 167 individuals.
Our needs are huge. They increase every year. Helping Hand gets no government support so we depend on the generosity of our neighbors and friends. We appreciate all donations, whether goods or cash, more than we can express.
We currently need space heaters, as well as warm clothes, blankets, coats, and socks. We are low on all food items, especially canned goods and meat.
• A single mom, with two kiddos, works but her job will not let her keep up with the electric bill. We helped her keep the power on.
• A single man also works but found himself unable to pay his electric bill. We kept his power on as well.
• An older couple is disabled and hubby recently suffered a stroke. They needed food and we provided some groceries.
