January Events

Amy Hawley

What a beautiful Christmas we just enjoyed! Now we're beginning another brand-spanking New Year, let's all do our best to make 2014 the best ever!
What greater way to begin this New Year than with Silver Sage's Cowboy Capital Opry, slated for 7 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 7. Reserved seats are still available by calling our office at 830-796-4969. Reservations are only $5 per person, and Opry admission fee is an additional $5.
All about Opry
For those new to this area, our Opry began several years ago. Two talented people moved to Bandera and enjoyed the residents so much they decided to do something special to help the good folks. Gerry and Harriet Payne stopped by Silver Sage and offered to drive for the Bandera County Meals on Wheels Program.
Meals on Wheels furnishes hot, nutritious meals five days a week to homebound county residents. Not only did the Paynes soon learn how many people in our area profited from this great program, they also realized how much money it takes to keep the service operating.
Visiting with our director and board members, Gerry and Harriet explained they wanted to put on a show utilizing local and nearby talent, charge a small fee and earmark all proceeds to the food program - the Cowboy Capital Opry was born!
Music & meal
The Opry is held on the first Tuesday of each month with two or three featured "special guests" each month. This month's entertainers are Brooke Graham and Dowell Mudry. Graham will grace our stage for the first time, but Mudry has performed here before and did a fantastic show!
For those who would like a light meal prior to show time, our staff prepares something different each month, serving dinner at 6 pm in the dining room. This month features pasta with marinara sauce, garlic sticks and a cookie for $5. So, for $15 you can be assured of a good seat, a delicious meal and an outstanding show.
A good New Year's Resolution would be to treat yourself to a fun evening once a month and help a worthwhile program at the same time!
Jam & lunch
More good news ... The Friday Nite Jam, which had been discontinued in November and December, will resume this month! This month's jam will be at 6 pm, Friday, Jan. 24.
Many of Sage activities take place in our spotless and attractive dining room. This large space is always beautifully decorated and furnished with featuring centerpieces on each table depicting the décor of the season. Not only are group meetings held here, but there is also a comfortable space to watch your favorite television shows, play cards and other games or just gather to visit.
Since it's actually a dining room, congregate meals are prepared and served here at 11:30 am, Monday through Friday. Everyone is welcomed to join us. To make a reservation, call our office at 830-796-4969 before 9:30 am. Cost of the meal is $5 for those 60-plus and $6 for those under the age of 60.
Our Silver Sage Community Center is off to a great start and the staff wishes everyone a big "Happy New Year!"
