Silver Sage Corral

Amy Hawley

Have you been seeing sweet little cherubs flying around the county? And did they have little bows and tiny hearts on the ends of the arrows? Don't be alarmed. Those tiny cupids are on a mission. Yep! They're out there sprinkling "love dust" - not cedar pollen - in the air, hoping it makes its mark on each of you!
Black & Red Ball
You might think this is crazy. After all, Valentine's Day is still weeks away! 'Tis true, but Valentine's means sweethearts, which means love, which means dinner and dancing the night away with your favorite honey! And this beautiful celebration leads you to The Farm Country Club and the always-anticipated Black and Red Ball!
Sponsored annually by Silver Sage Community Center, proceeds from The Black and Red Ball benefit the Corral's Number One priority - the Meals on Wheels Program of Bandera County. It also offers dear friends and benefactors an evening they will never forget.
The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 16, at The Farm, located on FM Highway 2828 at Pue Road. The doors of the beautifully decorated hall open at 6 pm for delicious appetizers and dipping sauces as you convene and meet up with your friends and neighbors.
Dinner will be served at 7 pm. Chef Aaron Gonzalez will prepare a scrumptious meal consisting of White Truffle Roast Breast of Chicken with Poultry Au Jus, Potatoes Au Gratin, Seasonal Mixed Vegetables along with his Appetizers and Dipping Sauces and, for those who desire, an offering of Sweet Sangria Wine. Set-ups, keg beer and iced tea will also be provided, or you may wish to bring your own favorite adult beverage.
From 8 pm until 11 pm, the popular Darrell McCall Band will offer fantastic country western music for your dancing pleasure.
'Country Formal'
At 9 pm, Silver Sage staff and directors take care of business with a live auction of beautiful, useful, functional and fun items you will find you just can't live without! A lot of thought and care goes into the solicitation and offering of donated auction items.
Again, all proceeds support our Wheels on Meals Program.
February 16 at The Farm promises to be an evening you will never forget. Dress is "Country Formal." You may see gentlemen in tuxes, suits or starched jeans with white shirts and boots. Ladies gussie up in formal wear, "church clothes," slacks and a blingy sweater or pretty old-fashioned dresses and sunbonnets! Along with all the beautiful decorations and dressed up folks, this is truly an event to behold!
Tickets are $45 or $320 for a table for eight. You are advised to get your tickets soon as a sell-out crowd is expected. Tickets are available at Silver Sage Community Center or at Gunslinger.
More fun
Good news! Tomorrow, Jan. 25, our Friday Nite Jam returns! We know that many of you will welcome it back. The fun begins at 6 pm. Remember, it is a potluck!
And, our Birthday Bash also returns, celebrating birthdays from both December and January! The menu features Chicken Cordon Bleu. Please bring a side dish for the potluck. Lunchtime is 11:30 am on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Here's a birthday quote for the guys and gals celebrating at the bash: "I've always been taught to respect my elders and I've now reached the age when I don't have anybody to respect!"
Be glad for the gift of each day and enjoy them all. Happy Birthday! And, may a tiny little cupid sprinkle each of you with "love dust" this week!
