Needs are greater than ever

Judith Pannebaker

"He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done." Proverbs 19:17
Bandera County Helping Hand Director Jesse Parks reports that we need coats, jackets, sweaters and blankets to meet our clients' needs in the cold weather.
Since we fed so many for the holidays we also have a need for more food, especially canned fruits, vegetables and meats; and other non-perishable items.
Assistant Director Laura White still needs a working treadmill.
• A local church referred a man to us. He is retired and living on a fixed income. After paying his bills, he found himself short of funds and needed food. We gave him some groceries.
• An older woman is also living on a fixed income. She got behind on her electric bill and needed some assistance. We kept her power on.
• A single mom needed help with her electric bill and we helped her keep her kiddos warm.
• Another single mom also needed help with her electricity. We assisted her as well.
• A couple with children went from two incomes to one when Dad lost his job. They needed help with their electric bill and we assisted in keeping their power on.
• A single dad came in before the holidays. His wife left him and the children and she took their money. Then he lost his job and was evicted from the house they were renting. He needed a place to stay and he had nothing for Christmas. We gave him a motel voucher to get past the holidays. We also provided a Christmas meal for them and toys for the kids. We gave them groceries to get them through the holidays.
