2012-08-09Partnering with local church to help kids
Vicki L. George
Bandera County Helping Hand is partnering with a local church to provide school supplies for children in need. The church is doing something similar to the Angel Tree idea. Anyone who has a need for supplies but is struggling with the expense just needs to contact Helping Hand Director Jesse Parks for information on applying for this assistance.
We are still asking for donations of school supplies for the rest of our clients' children. Anyone who wishes to donate some of these supplies can visit the website of the Bandera Independent School District at www.banderaisd.net or call the schools to find out what is needed.
The supplies can be brought to Helping Hand and we will distribute them before school starts.
A few generous souls have brought in some meat and we are very grateful. However, our need for meat is huge and we welcome all donations.
Someone recently expressed concern about our food distribution policy so we thought it prudent to assure people that we give the food to those who are in need. We do not sell any food whatsoever. We must purchase some from the Food Bank in San Antonio. The rest is donated to us by our wonderful neighbors and friends.
When we have clients in need, we freely give them the groceries they seek.
We also need new and unopened shampoos, deodorants and conditioners.
• A couple with three children needed some help with their electric bill and they needed food. They both work but, with the kids home now, they couldn't keep up. We helped with the bill and we gave them the food they required.
• If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to Helping Hand or shop at our Thrift Store, come to 1116 12th Street in Bandera or mail to PO Box 1092, Bandera, TX 78003.
