2012-07-26Highlights from SILVER SAGE CORRAL
Doris Doebbler
Did you know that July is National Ice-Cream Month? We just read that somewhere. Shucks! Every month is a national ice-cream month at our house, with chocolate syrup, strawberries, fresh peaches, Oreo cookies, brownie crumbles. Mmm-mmm! Let's take a break and have a bowl right now!
We have something brand spanking new here at the Sage and we're sure proud of it! Our Board of Directors had a new green canopy installed at the entrance to the parking lot side of the building. It's great at cutting the glare of the evening sun and we will no longer get drenched during a rainfall! Thanks folks!
This is sure a busy week this week!
Crafts today
Today, Thursday July 26, at 1:00 pm we will learn how to decorate our flip-flops! Sure hope a lot of you folks will come out as this will be a fun and popular craft to learn. A reminder of the materials you will need to bring with you: of course, flip-flops in your choice of color, spool of Ofray ribbon, glue (hot glue gun or E6000 glue), two decorations such as large crystal rhinestones, a pair of earrings, small sequin pieces, ready-made bows -- whatever your heart desires! You can find all or most of the suggested supplies at any craft store.
Just think, you can match any outfit with your own decorated flip-flops!
Yours will be unique and special!
This will be such fun for you school girls and adults alike! Get your friends together, come to our activity center and have some real, productive fun!
Friday night jam
On July 27 at 6 pm we will have our Friday Nite Jam Session. Come sing along and enjoy the music. Bring a dish of your favorite munchies -- this is a pot luck!
Birthday bash
Then on Tuesday, July 31, we will have our monthly Birthday Bash! Featured on the menu will be Beef Stroganoff. You are asked to bring a potluck dish to be served with the entrée. We will have a guest of honor at this celebration -- that good looking youngster, Mr. Stan Johnson who turned 97 years young this month!
Come help us wish Stan, and all the other July celebs, a very happy birthday!
Our birthday quote for special July folks is: "Life is not the way it's supposed to be -- it's the way it is -- the way we cope with it is what makes the difference." Have a great year!
By the way, at last month's Birthday Bash we were treated to root beer floats by our friends from AACOG!
Many thanks to the Alamo Area Council of Governments!
Health screening
Also on July 31 Silver Sage will host Life Line Screening. This screening checks for plaque build-up in your arteries and is beneficial in that it can detect signs leading to stroke.
There are five screenings offered including Stroke/Carotid Artery, Heart Rhythm or Atrial Fibrillation, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Peripheral Arterial Disease and Osteoporosis Risk Assessment. For more information, or to pre-register (required), please call 1-800-364-0457. This is a wonderful and convenient way to be sure you stay healthy. Give Life Line a call today!
Well, we did it again! Made the first mistake we've ever made -- a second time!! In last week's column we erroneously printed that the Cowboy Capital Opry would be held August 1.
The Opry is always held on the first Tuesday of each month. It is, in fact, on Tuesday, August 7. But we were correct in telling you that John Wayne Schulz would be the featured guest! Sorry if we confused any of you out there! At least we know you are paying attention! And, thanks for reading our column!
Now! Go dig into a bowl of ice-cream!
