Closed on Independence Day

Vicki L. George

Bandera County Helping Hand will be closed for Independence Day on Friday, July 6, to give our staff and volunteers a long weekend. We wish everyone a happy, fun and safe holiday.

A very generous lady brought in 18 new box fans. We are extremely grateful for her donation. Thank you, Ms. M!

Last year we gave out almost 50 box fans. If anyone still wants to donate, please go ahead and bring them in. We will need them and gratefully accept them.

We have such amazing neighbors.

Several gardeners have been coming each week to bring us their extra freshly harvested vegetables. We also get fresh farm eggs from a few chicken raisers. We love being able to give our clients fresh items whenever we can.

For remembering those in need, thank you!

We also appreciate those who donate their time and energy. Our volunteers are awesome. One in particular dazzled us last week. She and her husband are ex-military and stationed as civilian workers in Kuwait.

Because she must come home occasionally she returned here and gave Helping Hand a week of her time.

Our Center Director Jesse Parks said she came in like a tornado and organized everything so well the Thrift Store customers were audibly impressed. She was such a big blessing no one wanted her to leave.

Thanks to her and to all our wonderful volunteers.

Last week we assisted three families with their electric bills, gave clothing to one woman and provided food to nine families.

Helping Hand still has some special food needs: A continuing need for meat, in any form; peanut butter; box dinners; powdered milk; and condiments.

Assistant Director Laura White still has requests for: Canning jars, small crock pots, electric skillets and A/C window units in good working condition.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to Helping Hand or shop at our Thrift Store, come to 1116 12th Street in Bandera or mail to PO Box 1092, Bandera, TX 78003.
